Coming from this "Rust Belt" region, Dongbei cuisine is characterized by its unapologetically rustic flavors. Unlike the refined cooking of southern regions, Dongbei food was built by the communal table, for the communal table. Sun says she wants her customers at Little Pine to linger longer and enjoy each other's company. In keeping with Dongbei's blue collar roots, Sun strives to keep prices approachable, offering lunch specials for less than $20.

"We have plenty of space," Sun said. "You can sit there for longer and have more food, have another drink.

"We want people to come, and we don't care how much they spend, to be honest. We just want people to come and to be regulars."
